Foundation or Board-Focused Curriculum in IX–X? Choosing Well

Standard IX–X is where the fork in the road appears: maximise board scores now, or build competitive basics early? At EA we run three curricula — here's how to choose between them honestly.

THE LEARNING EDITClearer choices. Better preparation.
01

The Board Preparation curriculum

Designed exclusively for outstanding school and board performance: NCERT-first teaching, chapter-wise assignments and tests, part-syllabus and model tests, and large-scale model-paper practice for board confidence. Students are still encouraged towards NTSE and IMO.

02

The Foundation curriculum

Designed exclusively for building basics for engineering and medical entrances: tricky, conceptual and higher-order-thinking questions, with encouragement for NTSE, KVPY and Science/Mathematics Olympiads. A weekend batch for Mathematics & Science only is available for students who need weekdays free.

03

The ‘with Compatible Foundation' curriculum

The best of both: NCERT-first board preparation plus higher-order-thinking practice, with about 30% of assignments relevant to NTSE, IMO and similar exams. It is the most chosen curriculum among families aiming long-term at JEE or NEET.

04

Match the curriculum to the child, not the trend

A child who loves problem solving and finishes school work easily will thrive on foundation depth. A child rebuilding confidence will gain more from board-focused wins first — both paths reach competitive exams by XI–XII.

Unsure? A counselling session maps your child's appetite and goals to the right mix. That conversation is free, and it is the best first step.

KEEP THESE CLOSE

The guide, at a glance.

  1. 01

Board prep = maximum school scores + model-paper confidence

  2. 02

    Foundation = competitive basics + NTSE/KVPY/Olympiad orientation

  3. 03

Compatible Foundation = both, with ~30% NTSE/IMO-relevant assignments

A little more clarity

Your questions, answered

No — foundation curricula at EA are NCERT-first. Board syllabus is completed and tested weekly; foundation work adds depth on top, which typically raises school marks too.

Intermediate changes are possible depending on seat availability and the student's pace — discuss it in a parent–teacher meeting or counselling session.
